In which we bring you motoring news from around the Web:

• According to a report Tuesday by Reuters, Fiat appears to be hunting for money to finance a buyout of the 41.5 percent of Chrysler it doesn’t own. Talks with financiers may conclude next month, and a deal with the United Auto Workers retiree health care trust, which currently owns the rest of Chrysler, could made by July. Sergio Marchionne, Fiat’s chief executive, said that fully merging Chrysler and Fiat could give Fiat cash to offset some of its European losses as well as make Fiat the world’s seventh-largest auto group. Analysts estimate that the 41.5 percent share of Chrysler is worth about $4 billion. (Automotive News)

• More than 500 unclaimed vehicles are up for auction on May 2 and May 7; while mostly flood-damaged, the offerings include some salvageable automotive survivors from Hurricane Sandy. Of more than 3,300 vehicles towed from emergency routes and removed from haphazard locations around New York City after the storm, the leftovers will be sold through the David R. Maltz auction house on Long Island. By law, car owners have up to 10 days to claim a car that’s been determined to be abandoned, but city officials said they would work with people whose cars are about to go to auction. The auction house will get 10 percent from the sales, and the rest will go to the city. (The New York Post)

• A Mazda 6 became the first diesel-powered Grand-Am winner over the weekend, taking the checkered flag at the Rolex Grand-Am GX race at Road Atlanta. Based upon the most up-to-date Mazda 6 model, both the first- and third-place cars — the No. 00 Visit Florida Racing Mazda 6 and the No. 70 SpeedSource Mazda 6 — competed with production-based Skyactiv-D Clean Diesel engines. • As car sales climb in India and China, auto buyers in the two countries are becoming increasingly attracted to larger cars. In India, carmakers foreign and domestic are facing a drop in demand for small, inexpensive, entry-level cars and more of a market for premium compact sedans and hatchbacks. Chinese car buyers are now scooping up more S.U.V.s, crossovers and luxury sedans, driving up the price China pays for imported oil and raising concerns about worsening air pollution. (The Economic Times)

• The City of Los Angeles announced its acceptance as a host city for the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile Formula E electric car race series Monday, which was also Earth Day. Routes for the race are still undecided, but the series is expected to commence in 2014. City officials said in a release that Los Angeles was chosen because it already has a growing electric vehicle infrastructure in place, including 121 public charging stations and a streamlined permitting process for the home electrical system upgrades needed for some chargers. Some of the other cities chosen to host races on the Formula E Championship circuit are Miami, London, Rome, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janiero and Putrajaya, Malaysia. Two additional locations will be announced later. (The City of Los Angeles)
